Dr. Ponec joined North County Radiology in 1990. He is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with the American Board of Radiology with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular and Interventional Radiology Dr. Ponec earned his BS degree at University of Southern California and graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated University of California San Diego Medical School in 1983 and attended University of California San Francisco for Radiology Residency and Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship.
He serves as Director of Interventional Radiology and Department Chair at Tri City Medical Center, President of the Board of Managers and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Health Institute, Quality Chair of the Cardiovascular and Neuroscience institutes, and numerous other committees, as well as President of North County Radiology He was elected Fellow of the Society of Intentional Radiology and has served as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, and as a Distinguished Reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, and oral board examiner for the Board of Radiology.
Dr. Ponec is actively involved in clinical research and has served as primary or contributing investigator on multiple FDA sponsored clinical trials, with interests in treatment of Peripheral Vascular disease and aneurysm, Interventional Oncology and acute Stroke interventions along with all areas of Vascular and Interventional Medicine.
